Are RC LiPo Batteries Waterproof? (Important Battery Info)

When it comes to owning an RC car, One of the things you want to take care of the most is the battery. Because different RC cars have different batteries you may be wondering if your RC car battery needs any maintenance.

RC cars are extremely popular and are owned by a wide range of people from children to adults. There are so many different RC cars that are available from cheap to expensive with many different brands to choose from.

Because there are many different brands and different price points for the RC car, many people wonder if the batteries that are in them are any good. This is a very good question as the last thing you want to do is spend money on an RC car that does not have a good battery.

Many people also wonder if these batteries are waterproof as well.

Most RC cars come with a Lipo battery, which are 100% air and waterproof sealed. This allows you to run your RC car along any terrain and not worry about damaging the battery. Although you should never submerge your RC car in the water, if you are running through a small puddle or along the shoreline, you are not going to damage the battery.

Because LiPo batteries for your RC car may be expensive, many people want to make sure that they are waterproof before they take their RC car into any water. This is a good thing to check as the last thing you want to do is ruin your brand new RC car with a little bit of water.

Not only are the LiPo batteries that come with your RC car waterproof, but most RC cars are water resistant as a whole (meaning the water on the grass won’t hurt them but you shouldn’t submerge them. This means that all the electronics for your car are well sealed as they expect you to take your RC car through some wet conditions at some point in its life.

If you do happen to run your RC car in the rain very often though one thing that might happen to the battery is that the connectors may begin to corrode. Although the battery itself is watertight, the water will still hit the metal battery connector and can cause corrosion over time.

Will a battery work if it gets wet?

When you are racing your RC car one thing that is bound to happen is that your battery will get wet. Because not all RC cars are made the same, many people wonder if only the expensive batteries will continue to work if they get wet.

Because most people have a cheaper RC car and not an expensive one they may be wondering what happens if their battery gets wet. Will it still work?

Thankfully a battery is a sealed unit on an RC car and no matter how cheap the RC car is the battery will still work if it gets wet. This means that you do not have to worry about racing in the rain or driving your RC car through some water.

Because salt water can corrode the connector for the battery, you will want to make sure that you do not drive the RC car into salt water very often without spraying it off afterwards. Overall though the battery will still work if it gets wet no matter what.

Can wet RC batteries cause a fire?

When you look at a battery for your RC car, you may be wondering if it is dangerous to handle them. Some people have reported that batteries have literally blown up in their hands which caused them extreme pain. Is any of this true?

Batteries can be dangerous if they are in the right conditions, but for the most part you will not have to worry at all about your RC car batteries. This is because they are 100% waterproof and are designed to not be flammable (unless mishandled)

No one wants to worry about their RC car batteries causing a fire when they get it a little wet or just causing a fire in general. Thankfully this is not something that you have to worry about when it comes to the battery for your RC car.

All you need to do is simply charge the battery and put it into your RC car and then you are ready to race. You will not have to worry about your battery causing a fire or blowing up as the batteries in your RC car are extremely stable.

What causes batteries to catch fire?

There are not many batteries that actually catch fire or even people that have seen it happen. This is because it is extremely rare to see a battery catch fire.

The main reason that a battery will catch fire is if the battery pack itself has been punctured, damaged, or improperly packaged. Outside of these reasons your battery in your RC car should last for a long time without any issues at all.

Having a battery in your RC car is one of the top things that people worry about as they hear that you can overcharge them as well as under charge them. Although this is true, it is not something you have to worry about as RC car battery chargers have safety features built into them to stop this from happening.

Can a dead LiPo battery explode?

When you think about a battery for your RC car you probably think about a LiPo battery that can simply be plugged in to your car and used. The problem with this is when the battery dies you will need to recharge it.

If the battery is 100% dead many people worry about it causing problems and exploding when it is being charged. Thankfully though a dead LiPo battery should not explode or cause any damage or problems. If the battery pack has started to swell up though it is dangerous to charge and should be properly disposed of and not used.

LiPo batteries can seem extremely dangerous when you read about them, but overall they are harmless if they are well taken care of. If you use the battery charger that comes with your battery and your RC car, you do not ever have to worry about overcharging your RC car battery or it blowing up as long as it isn’t swollen or damaged.

Conclusion

Now that you know about RC LiPo batteries being waterproof you can take your RC car down to the beach or through those puddles that you were worried about. Being able to not have to worry about damaging your battery as you go through water is a big positive when it comes to using your RC car.

No one wants to worry about damaging the battery on their car by driving it through a little puddle or racing it in the rain. Because it is waterproof,  there is nothing to worry about which makes everyone feel safer.

If your battery does happen to get wet though all you need to do is let your RC car air dry or if it is dirty you can spray it off before letting it dry. Having an RC car is extremely fun and because the batteries are not dangerous you do not have to worry about damaging your RC car when it gets wet,
