How To Tell If A Traxxas Battery Is Bad (Plus 3 Important Tips)

If you have ever used a Traxxas RC car then you know just how fun these machines can be. Traxxas is the top RC car brand in the United States and has many different options for you to choose from when you want to race. They have cars as cheap as $150 and ones that are as expensive as $800.

The newest Traxxas RC cars though have built in sound to make the RC cars feel more realistic.

Because all of the Traxxas RC cars do not have an engine and are run on a battery you will not need to carry around fuel for your Traxxas RC car. The problem is though after a period of time some people report that their Traxxas battery does not work and will not charge.

This is known as a bad battery. This leads many people to wonder how they know if their battery is just dead or if it is a bad battery.

The easiest way to tell if your Traxxas RC car battery is bad is to take the battery out and examine it. If the battery is swollen at all then the battery is bad and should immediately be replaced. Another way to tell if your Traxxas RC car battery is bad is if when you are charging it it will not charge above 80% capacity.

If you have been racing Traxxas RC cars for a while then you probably have an extra battery in case one goes bad during the race. If you do not happen to have a replacement battery though you can find them by clicking here.

Can you overcharge a Traxxas battery?

When you’re racing a Traxxas RC car one of the things that you need to be careful of is the battery itself. If you’re not careful with the battery of the Traxxas RC cars you can easily damage them. No one wants to damage their Traxxas battery as they can be expensive to replace.

If your Traxxas battery is a Lipo battery then you need to make sure that you do not damage your battery as this can cause the battery to catch fire.

One of the main ways that people damage a Traxxas Lipo battery is by overcharging it. Although Traxxas RC car batteries do come with safeguards, to stop the charge when it is full, you should always be watching the battery and never just leave it charging overnight.

Overcharging the battery can easily cause the battery to not work properly as well as even cause the battery to swell up and possibly break open. Because nobody wants to damage their battery by overcharging it or under charging it or using the wrong charger you should always make sure you check your battery’s warning to see what setting you should use when charging your battery. .

How long should I charge my Traxxas battery?

If you have ever used a Traxxas RC car you know one of the worst things is waiting on your battery to charge. Once you start racing or using your RC car you do not want to stop and unfortunately you were always forced to because of the battery. This is why many people will have multiple batteries for their Traxxas RC car so they can continue to have fun while the other battery charges.

For those that do not have a second battery though we will probably want to know how long you will need to wait for your Traxxas battery to be charged. This is why many people want to know how long they should charge their Traxxas battery for.

If your Traxxas RC car comes with a 3000mAh battery, then when you use your Traxxas battery charger it will take around 45 minutes to charge. If you think the battery is done charging prior to this, you will want to check to make sure it is not a false peak.

If you under charge your RC car battery because you think it is done after 10 minutes and you go to reset you will only have a few minutes of racing time and will make you wonder if your battery is bad. The good news is your battery probably isn’t bad you just did not wait long enough for it to charge.

Although 45 minutes to receive a full charge for your battery does not seem like that long, if you only have a couple hours to race your RC cars then you will definitely want to have a secondary battery! There would be no point in racing your RC car for 30 to 45 minutes only to wait there 30 to 45 minutes to have to leave. This is probably one of the biggest reasons people will have multiple batteries with them so they can have more fun in a shorter amount of time.

Can I use a different charger besides my Traxxas one to charge my Traxxas battery?

If you have ever gone to a specific place to raise your Traxxas RC car you probably at one time or another have gotten there and realized you forgot to bring your Traxxas battery charger. There is nothing more frustrating than getting to a place and realizing you forgot something especially if the location is quite a ways from your house. Nobody wants to stop what they are doing and go all the way home just to pick up one little item to turn around and come all the way back.

Although nobody wants to do this, there have been many people that have found themselves in this exact situation. Being in the situation makes many people wonder if they can use a different charger besides their Traxxas battery one to charge their RC car battery.

If you were out with friends and they also have Traxxas RC cars the odds are that one of them will have a Traxxas battery charger with them that you can use. If no one happens to have a Traxxas battery charger, but they have a different brand, as long as the connection fits properly and you set the right charging voltage for your battery, then you can use a different battery charger.

This helps many people avoid making the long trip back to their house as well as damaging their battery by charging it with the wrong voltage. Obviously no one wants to damage their battery but everybody wants to charge their battery with any charger they have access to.

Conclusion

Now that you know how to tell if your Traxxas RC car battery is bad, you know exactly what you should do if you find out it is bad. It is always best to have a second battery in your possession in case your battery goes bad as well as to maximize the amount of fun you can have in a short amount of time.

Having a second battery with you will allow you to charge your first battery while you continue to race your RC car instead of having to wait on the battery to charge. You also know that you can overcharge your battery in the best way to avoid this is to always use the proper charger as well as make sure you watch your battery while it is charging.
